The purpose of this research has been to provide guidelines for improving dental care service standards and identify the most influential drivers of improvement. The study compared the dental care from the United States to that of Australia, with the aim of identifying and analyzing the factors that affect dental quality in both countries. It also examined the role played by service type, number of visits per person, quality outcomes, accessibility, use of dental equipment and use of dental services. This paper highlights the need to improve the standard of dental care and the need for service improvement strategies across different areas.
We identified five key drivers of dental care that have significant influence on dental quality. These were demographics, dental history, dental preparation and education, hygiene practices and food quality as the time it takes patients to end of their treatment in a dental clinic. It was found that the overall dental demographics had the greatest impact on dental emergency and tooth loss/cracked teeth. Thus, it is advisable for parents to carefully consider their family's demographics, especially when children reach an age where there is a major dental milestone such as first tooth, for proper and routine dental care. The Dental Health Examination is the single factor that best predicts poor oral health. If this exam is delayed or ignored, then it is likely to result in tooth loss or poor oral health and eventually to tooth decay. Hence, it is important for parents to ensure the routine dental examination of their children, pay attention to signs of oral health deterioration and consult a dentist at the earliest sign of tooth decay. Gum disease and cavities are easy to detect as the affected area reveals discolored and pus-filled pockets. On the other hand, toothache often occurs when a tooth is decayed or broken open, exposing diseased root canal that leads to inflammation, infection and tooth loss. The presence of oral cancer (oral carcinoma), especially in men, can be detected through blood tests and tissue biopsy. These tests will determine if there is presence of cellular material inside the gums. Blood tests will reveal levels of predihristology (high-normalizing) hormone in the blood, which indicates a high level of estrogen in the body. Estrogen is known to stimulate growth of new tooth and bone cells, so women with high level of estrogen should start practicing daily preventive dental care services to prevent oral cancer in later life. Moreover, men with a high level of estrogen will be more prone to cancer. A good dentist always makes sure that he inspects the teeth thoroughly and regularly. In addition, he/she also cleans the mouth thoroughly and makes sure there is no food particles, saliva, mucous, or oral bacteria left after brushing. This ensures proper oral hygiene. With this dental care, the dentist can detect toothaches earlier before it advances into a severe condition. Therefore, always make it a point to visit your dentist for regular check-up.
